Ideas and Musings ...

Katie and I put in for pronghorn doe tags this year in Wyoming. We were successful! But it got me thinking that this is the kind of trip where I will regret not having my truck. Heck, it has me regretting buying her Subaru Impreza instead of the Crosstrek. At the time I figured if I needed a few extra inches of ground clearance that is what the Nissan Titan was for.

This past spring turkey season I was not able to get the Impreza too far along some dirt roads on the Eglin AFB hunting area as I was scraping along the center of the sandy/dirt roads. I parked further out and walked in. Looking at our area in Wyoming I’m guessing we won’t be able to take a lot of the dirt roads on the BLM land and will be doing a lot on foot.

My morning dog walks can be dangerous and my mind can wander. I thought today: “Hmm, I wonder if we should trade in the Impreza for a Crosstrek?” I almost mentioned it to my wife, but decided to do a bit more research first. Turns out that KBB trade in for the Impreza is about $16k and a Crosstrek with similar features will cost us at least $26k, probably a bit more. Then there are taxes as well to consider.

For $10k, or likely less, I could get a pretty nice WJ Grand Cherokee Overland ...

For the moment it isn’t worth making any changes as we are set to move in a year. I can walk a bit further this hunting season.
