Getting Prepped

The upcoming move to Yuma has me excited and in full preparation mode. Payment has been sent on the 2006 GX470 Sport with 148,000 miles. It is a rust free CA and TX rig with full Lexus service history. The only current upgrade from stock are E rated 265/70R17 Pro Comp tires. Seller reports only about 4,000 miles on them so I probably won’t make a change this year. I pick it up in a few weeks.

My initial upgrade list includes Weather Tech floor mats, a Bluetooth radio adaptor, and maybe some seat covers to keep the leather protected from the toddler and dog. A roof rack and 270 awning are high on the list as well; hopefully by the end of the summer or early fall. I’m kind of waiting on Rhino to list their backbone; they have them in country, but the web sales team hasn’t put them on the site yet.

Because I’m new to the area I went ahead and bought these books. I have been slowly mapping the routes with Caltopo to be good starting points for family trips. With these as a basis I’ll be able to explore side routes on the motorcycle or the GX. Eventually I’ll meet people in the area and know places better, but I figure these will help in the beginning.

I just so happen to be on a business trip to northwest Washington. I reached out via email to Overland Expeditions just over the border in Canada to see if they had any Scepter military fuel cans in stock. I made a day trip up there and got 3 of them; that’s all they had in stock for the red ones.
