Seats, Replacement seats!

What do you think about aftermarket seats?

It seems the rabbit hole is never ending when it comes to seats. In the FZJ80 you generally have power seats. They don’t often fail, but they can and the leather will most certainly fail. I don’t find their big flat overstuff nature very comfy, but at least they have a lot of adjustments so you can change them around on a 10 hour drive.

So, do you replace them before a big trip and HOPE that they are comfy?

[Spoiler alert, we’re trying to save (and have been for a couple years) and plan for a bigger trip. A multi month long trip. Always wanted to do it and I think we’re nearing the time to go for it, ready or not.]

So...

There are cheap seats like these Corbeau Sport or GTSII seats.

Either of these could work. The Second pictured GTSII look like the bolsters could get annoying to lift yourself over to get in and out though.

These are cheap, like under $1,000 with sliders delivered to your door cheap. (It’s still a ton of money)

Then on the other end of the spectrum are the Scheel-Mann’s. They are what you’ll often see in the no expense spared $200,ooo Land Cruisers. At a minimum of $1,000 a seat up to $2,500 per seat they are high end. Too high end to justify the cost no matter how comfy.

So, you are left wondering what to do. SOmething in the middle? Find a nice set of manual adjustment seats from the same year FZJ80 (The problem is that it’s nearly impossible to find these that aren’t beat to hell).

Or,

Just run with what I’ve got. They currently work and that’s just fine. Suck it up buttercup.

Lastly,

Here is a video of Dirtheaddave to muddy the waters. Also, upon reaching out to him he said he likes these seats, but that if he were spending long days in them he might go with some Honda Acord or Acura Integra seats with custom mounts for the money. Interesting that he offered up a fairly random option like that. Are Integra seats known to be comfy?
