I went camping with my oldest daughter this weekend. Its kinda a thing I’ve been doing with her for a little while now.
Our first trip last year in the fall to Klondike Bluff near Moab
Then in the summer up Norway flats in the high Uinta mountains. (no hooks on that line)
And then yesterday back up into the Uintas. This time up Murdock basic to Marshall and Hoover Lakes. What a great trip.
Watching Big Hero 6...its a nail biter. My Daughter riding with her friend
On Saturday morning my neighbor and friend showed up to our site with his two little girls. It was frankly amazing they found us, we were just packing up camp from to head up higher to Hoover lake when he pulled in. No radio contact, and we weren’t on the main road. I guess you couldn’t have NOT heard our camp though.
This is Hoover lake, our second high mountain lake. Hoover lake is just under 10,000 feet and apparently free of fish that are interested in our terrible fishing skills.
The road to hoover lake, this is what most of the trail looked like.
Ah, home sweet home. That blanket was 2 part: partly to keep the full moon out, and partly as a screen to throw a movie on from the worlds cheapest and crappiest projector. The bed is a 6 inch thick foam twin bed we shared. it was a comfy night.
She decided at ACE hardware when I was buying bait and new sunglasses that she needed a new hat. She got one. Campsite elevation 10,007 feet.
She and her friend picked a LOT of wildflowers.
On Saturday after lunch at Hoover Lake we went part way down into cataract gorge, where we stopped and played in the waterfalls for a few hours.
This is probably the most fun they had the whole trip. Water and kids mix just fine.
This is Marshall lake, near our first camp site.
Another angle of Marshall lake
I don’t have the pictures with me right now, but there must have been a sign at the trailhead I missed labeled “Toyota only” because in addition to our 2 FZJ80s, and 2 Tacoma’s (1 current, one previous) we only saw Toyota trucks up here. Another current gen Tacoma, another previous gen Tacoma, a hilux (“truck”) and an FJ cruiser. I guess Toyota drivers are more likely to get out in the dirt or something, I don’t know.
And here is a short disjointed video of the trail.
(the song is a little weird, but I was crunched for time and I liked the tune)
