House Batteries - a discussion

So I just watched this video and I guess I learned something I didn’t know about deep cycle batteries, or I think i did.

It’s timely because I was about to replace the main battery in my cruiser with a group 31 Marine deep cycle AGM battery, this one probably. The consensus on the forums is to ditch the traditional dual battery system which are expensive, heavy and complicated and move to a single deep cycle AGM battery and a jump start pack like the Antigravity I bought. I love the antigravity, and I wont be giving it up, but this discussion has me a little worried about my plan to replace my single starter battery with a much heavier deep cycle marine battery, given that most of my trips are short driving stints.

Granted, I don’t put a lot of load on my battery right now but I will when I get a fridge or winch.

About the same time I read about someone who’s sears platinum 31m went dead after 2 years because it wasn’t getting enough charge and putting two and two together makes me wonder: what if I can’t actually put back the charge I want to take out?

I don’t really want to do dual battery, its just too much money and weight for the gain, but is there another solution? Or what about this charge situation, does it even apply to AGM batteries? I suspect it does.
