Looks like this person...who is clearly an overland type (ham radio, compass on the dash, shore power panel on one side, etc, etc) just added some square tube to the hitch to protect the rear quarter panels. This isn’t elegant but it would save you some trouble from time to time. I’ve scraped the crap out of that corner...lucky didn’t go in deep enough for sheetmetal.
