Never mind Hillary or Bernie, Trump or Cruz - would you elect to mount the spare on the front of your rig?
The owner of this very nicely equipped XJ did.
I can see a few advantages:
- Eliminate the need for a clumsy and heavy rear bumper wheel carrier
- Spare wheel not blocking your rearward vision
- Easy to mount and remove
- You can cream wayward deer with a little bit of extra cushioning
- Looks tough in a 1970s Ford pick-up kind of way
Disadvantages:
- Probably does not improve fuel economy or engine cooling
- Impairs forward visibility
- Precludes winch use
- Makes access to the engine awkward
- Looks sorta dumb in a 1970s Ford pick-up kind of way
Personally, I don’t think I’d go this route with my Jeep, purely for aesthetic reasons. And remember, only Land Rovers are allowed to rock hood-top spare wheel mounts.
