Land Cruiser axed from the UK

I know there a few lots of Cruiser fans on here. So sad news from Blighty:

Obviously with the updated 200 about to launch Toyota, have decided enough is enough, and pulled the LC from the UK market. The 200 over there is known as the Land Cruiser V8 (or previously Amazon), it seems the ‘normal’ Land Cruiser (Prado) survives.

It seems that in a country with tragic depreciation on just about every car, the Cruiser fares pretty well, and reading the comments on PistonHeads, it seems there is a niche following amongst rural types. Maybe a more back to basic version would have been a better idea?

However it is a country where status, and how you are perceived by others is a high priority for many, and so a BMW or Audi badge is always going to have more mass appeal, and apart from some extreme rural areas maybe they just don’t need the LC’s capabilities?

It’s hard to imagine living in Australia, where you see literally dozens of Cruisers everyday, but in world terms it’s a pretty niche vehicle isn’t it?
