Well, credit where it is due. I think these guys have done a great job with their 4th series.

Like many I was disappointed overall with the third series for Mountain State Overland, it had it’s moments but as it went on it was rightly criticised for taking ridiculously overbuilt trucks to normal tourist spots, or as aaronet succinctly put it...

‘I unsubbed when they went an entire series visiting places I could have gotten to in my Corolla.’

To their credit it seems team MSO listened to the criticism and series 4 is by far their best yet, in my opinion. The stunning Vermont landscape again makes a change from the more usual arid locations of the American west and Australia. The trails are challenging and linking together some very cool places. However most importantly everyone seems to be having FUN! A great group this time with some really good characters. Matt (Blue Ridge Overland) had both of us in stitches with his Range Rover walk-around. Any Rover guys or anyone who knows Rover guys will definitely relate to this! (below)

Also interesting to see the live axles and articulation (and probably lockers) still seem to have the edge over traction control in many of the challenging sections.

A good mix of vehicles on this one too. This might sound like sour grapes, but I still think these sponsored guys are denying themselves a big chunk of the experience by not evolving their own rig with their own money. I appreciate it is a funding model and without all those brands on board we wouldn’t have a series to watch, or certainly not as good looking a show. That’s just my 2c...

Anyway, the series is ongoing. If you haven’t watched it do yourself a favour and check it out.

Well done to Jason and his team, great job.
