2017 is coming to a close. 2018 beckons. The Australian summer is in full swing and it’s already a bit mental.

Summer storms have taken their toll on the district. We measured 146 km/h winds across the roof on Tuesday and I’m nearly finished mulching the results and repairing the minor building damage.

Tomorrow afternoon we head to the Hay Plain for a night at Yanga before yet another eleven hour run to the nation’s other capital that isn’t Melbourne. This’ll be the first time in 12 years we haven’t done it in one go.

Then it’s a couple of weeks with our mob doing Christmas stuff and then it’s back again and...but no this time is different. 2018 is probably going to be very different for us.

It looks like we are changing towns, changing States and changing course. New opportunities will see us ending our decade long association with north west Victoria and moving a thousand kilometres north east onto the north western slopes of New South Wales.

Hills beckon. New travels beckon. Much upheaval beckons. And I see quite a few more crossings of the Hay Plain in my near future whilst we transition.

May your Christmas and New Year be just as momentous even if for different reasons. Have fun, do stuff and be with family and friends and we’ll see you on the other side.
