Tall and skinny off-road tires used in a few overland vehicles I’ve seen are referred to as pizza cutters by some people. I’ve also seen plenty of debates between using a narrow tire for off-road versus using a wide tire, I personally opted for the narrow tires myself.
Last Friday I installed some new tires. Toyo Open Country R/T in LT255/80R17 E load rated on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport.

Comparing them to my current Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx in LT255/80R17, they are a bit narrower, which is the look that I preferred (opinions).

The two tires mounted side-by-side. The Cooper on the right has no air in it in these pictures.

Here are some measurements of the tread width comparing the Toyos vs the Coopers:

It was dark by the time I got home Friday night so I didn’t get any pictures. But Saturday we spent the day at an East Texas OHV Park with our Soft Roaders group.

When I got home that evening I took a few shots:

Our friend John took a couple of action shots of my Jeep while we were at the park:

I played trail leader the entire day at the event so I didn’t have the opportunity to do an all-out full test of these tires. Initial impressions are that they are quieter, my steering is lighter, fuel economy is better, and the ride has improved. This is all from a 340-mile trip in comparison to the Coopers. I have to make another trip to the local OHV to get a full test of the Toyos.
The Toyos come out to a 33x10x17, so they’ll fit a plethora of vehicles including Toyotas, other Jeep models (Grand Cherokee, etc.), and pretty much anything that can fit a skinny 33.
Here is the full initial review of the tire tested at our local OHV park:
