My fiancée drives a beater 300,000mi 2010 Mazda 3 that her family has owned since new. It’s generally a very reliable car, but yesterday on her drive to work the low oil pressure light came on. She had no clue what it meant but figured it wasn’t good, so she continued to drive to work where she proceeded to call me. I walked her through checking the dipstick which was completely dry. I instructed her to buy 2 quarts of oil, dump it in, and drive the 70 miles home so I could take a look.

Today I did an oil change and only drained 2.5 quarts of oil. This car had been running at and around 0.5 quarts total for who knows how long! It only got an oil change 3500 miles preciously, so it must be burning at quite the rate. For reference it takes 4.5qts.

I have a feeling we’re going to be buying a new used car for her sooner rather than later. Any oppos selling a car that’s boring, not too big, and an automatic?
