Flightline: 1/TBD

Drawing inspiration from yesterday’s post of the 707s at Boeing Field, I’m going to start a daily (until I get bored or forget...) post of an image from a flightline, either civilian or military, that catches my interest.

To start then:

NAS Falon, circa 1990. The two closest F-14Bs are “Camel Smoker” and “Thief of Baghdad”, specially painted (apparently the ground crew raided a local hobby/craft store for tempera paint) aircraft from VF-24, the Fighting Renegades, during their detachment to Falon. In addition to flying Adversary sorties, VF-24 was also the first F-14 squadron to drop bombs. The squadron was not deployed for Desert Storm, but did fly cover from the USS Nimitz for Operation Provide Comfort in April ‘91. The unit returned to the states in ‘91, and flew at Red Flag the following year. VF-24 was disestablished in 1996.
