The Mazda Lantis Type R is my favorite Type R.

Sometimes, all you really want in life is a 90's Mazda 5-door hatch styled by ex Porsche designers with THAT WING.

It’s probably not as fast as the Cossie, though, as the most powerful engine you could get in the Lantis Type R had 170 hp. Most had either the same engine as the Miata but mounted sideways because FWD, or a 2.0 litre V6 making 147 hp. None of those would be bad in a 90's hatchback. Apparently those V6s were super over-engineered as well, so people race these things. I’m not even a huge 90's car person, but I love these things. I’m sure they’re dang near impossible to find with the awesome wing, though.
