Amigo

This Isuzu Amigo was parked at the Spring-to-Spring trailhead this morning. It looks like a post-1997 model, in pretty good shape.

In 1989, I was transferred to Washington State. My apartment, food expenses, and vehicle were covered for the first year (it was a pretty good deal). At the end of the year, it was time to find a vehicle, and I decided on a 1989 Isuzu Amigo, which I was able to buy cash.

The Amigo was a great vehicle. It was used for my daily commute as well as for weekend adventures in the Cascades. It was very reliable and capable.

The 1989 model did not have the small windows behind the front seats like the one pictured. Mine was red, with a black convertible rear top. The one in the photograph has a rear hard top, which may be after-market. After-market tops were available even in 1989.

In 2000, I moved to Vermont and took the Amigo. Although I bought a Jeep Wrangler TJ in 2003, I kept the Amigo (it had a lot of miles, but it still ran fine). Eventually, the Amigo was sold to a young guy, who I would often see driving around town. It was still on the road until at least 2010.
