After ordering one and test fitting, I pulled the trigger and bought four more NOS AR wheels in 15x7 (OEM size) for the Pajero from some guy in Kansas City with a whole bunch of NOS AR wheels that he’s selling for cheap. I had them mounted by a commercial tire place over by the office, dropping them off in a couple of batches via the Jag over the last week. For $74/wheel shipped, these were the way to go to replace the old, shitty and corroded five spokes that came on it. Center caps aren’t an option on any aftermarket wheel with the abnormally large hubs on these trucks (at least not in 2020, they might have been in the 90s), and $150/wheel+shipping+center caps for refurbished OEM Montero wheels seemed excessive for a 26 year old adventure mobile.
To finish the job off right, I took some an assortment of wire wheels to the hubs yesterday and then gave them a fresh coat of black enamel to go along with new lug nuts.
I’m happy with the result of wheels in good condition and period correct to the truck, even if they’re not OEM.
It also got some new wipers and a fresh coat of black paint on the wiper arms while I was painting things.
