Meet the Arado Ar-196, standard shipboard plane of the Kriegsmarine in WW2. As we can see, it was dispatched from a remarkably short catapult. Later on in the war it was necessarily land based due to absence of ships.

Power by a nine cylinder BMW unit, not a thing often encountered.

Interestingly, Arado were by the 1930s owned by Heinrich Lübbe who was forced to sell the company to the state after he refused invitations to join the Nazi party. (and was arrested for his trouble).
