test fitting the Civic Si seats in my TSX

a while ago I bought some seats for the TSX, but they’ll require modification to fit, so it wasn’t just a couple hours of bolt in bolt out, so I havent actually put them in yet.

Yesterday I did some actual test fitting to see what modifications would be required. So for comparison on looks alone, enjoy these pics (project RuqSaq doing some subtle photobombing in the background)

Size wise, and looks wise, I think they’ll be good, but some modification is required

  • Rear side bolsters are shorter on the Civic, I think to make these fit the easiest would be to re-wrap the TSX piece. There’s easy access to the backside so it’d be easy for someone to do at home.
  • The rear seat base the bolt on the rear is driver side for the TSX, and passenger side for the Civic. This would be easy to re-drill.
  • The rear seat base the two front friction clips are ~1 inch closer together than the the TSX ones, but with some minor bending these lined up. You have to clearance the Civic seat base’s foam for the TSX stiffening bar that is beneath the seat.
  • The Civic rear uppers clip that retains it upright does not line up with the TSX. This will be easily moved on the rear of the Civic seat.
  • The front seats, for the driver’s side the seat belt is mounted to the seat for the Civic, mounted to the chassis for the TSX. This is very easily resolved by removing the seatbelt from the seat and reusing the TSX seatbelt.
  • The front seats fit in position well, but the mounting plates have to be extended ~2 inches in width. A welded plate will suffice, and has been done for many other chassis where seats have been swapped.

In the pros column is that they fit the car well, I think they look good, I prefer fabric over leather, and the airbag plugs are the same and the design the same that I don’t get any warning lights. And overall it’d make my car unique, and I like being the first to try a thing.

Cons, lots of modifying, and I’d lose electric seat adjustment and position memory, and the seat heaters.

In another topic, I’m off to pickup a few sets of wheels from Craigslist for the TSX and the wife’s CR-V, and made these snazzy pics to do some comparisons

TSX would be getting Nissan Pathfinder wheels, that the seller has had on their Altima so actually has car sized tyres mounted not SUV sized. Will only need some hub centric rings to make them fit.

and the CR-V is getting older MDX wheels. Which are identical in fitment down to the centre bore, as they are in fact Honda wheels of course
