Tough Day!

When I got home, I needed to move my car for street sweeping and the battery was dead. After a couple hours charging, it wouldn’t start so I adjusted the cables and poof, started within a half hour. I guess I had poor contact with the posts since I did it in the dark.

While I was waiting, exhausted-Nick spent some time wrapping up cables on the Exocet. Found a connector that I should have stripped out, but not a huge deal. I’ll hide it away for now.

Earlier in the day, a public relations “not quite worst but also really bad” thing happened. It’s not fully cleaned up yet but an important partner is pissed with us for a mistake a journalist made with information from our CEO. Doh. I really care about the quality of my team’s work but the amazing PR guy who works for me learned a bit about “slowing down in order to speed up” in our business. We work in an industry where people will pick apart every detail.

I still can’t quite get over the fact that the company gave me an IOU instead of a raise (delayed raise to next August + $50k+ bonus next August to cover missed wages between now and then). I love what I do and I love my team, but it’s time to start looking for something new. The Benjamin Franklin quote keeps coming to mind:

“Lend money to an enemy, and thou will gain him, to a friend, and thou will lose him. “

The analogy isn’t quite perfect, but close enough.
