If you have not been able to tell yet. I bought a 2015 Volkswagen Touareg TDI. For me this has always been a halo car. There just isn’t anything else quite like it made.
I knew it was now or never for me if I was going to get one. Since Volkswagen discontinued the TDI model in 2016 and the Touareg all together in 2017 (in the US Market), I knew I didn’t have long if I wanted a good one. And there was one final thing that pushed me over the edge on buying it. a 2 year UNLIMITED MILE bumper to bumper CPO warranty from Volkswagen. When I found the one I wanted, I decided to trade in the Golf TDI on it and bring home the Touareg.
This one is a 2015 that I bought with 32,000 miles back in September. It is in near perfect shape because it is CPO and was a lease before I picked it up. And of course it has plenty of cool options like the big sunroof and all, but the only option I really wanted was that sweet sweet diesel.
The Golf and Jetta TDI’s I have had prior to this felt like they had a lot of torque for a small car with 240 lb-ft of the good stuff. The Toureg on the other hand just has a lot of torque period. It is a 3.0l V6 Turbo Diesel with 240hp and 405 lb-ft. That just shows how much we have progressed considering my old 7.3l Powerstroke Diesel F-250 had roughly the same horsepower and about 20 more torques. That is seriously impressive.
Now of course that means stellar fuel mileage (for what it is) as well. Around town it does fine, mid to low 20's per gallon, but on the highway it does excellent. It is rated to do 28 mpg on the highway, but on most highway trips I have been getting into the low 30's.
This is a pretty big deal because the current small crossover, the Tiguan with an underpowered 2.0L will supposedly get 27mpg on the highway. And to top it off, I can tow again without borrowing my parents Tacoma. 7700 lb tow rating, which is wonderful.
