Pics from today! :) (Re-post for the morning crowd)

Stopped at an old railway-bridge-turned-walking/cycling/etc-trail in Bridgewater while running errands today. A quick history lesson - trains still exist in Nova Scotia, but mostly pretty much direct between Halifax and other provinces with stops along the way - they include VIA Rail for passengers and Canadian National for freight. Most rail here, other than light rail is run by diesel engines because of the long distances involved and the immense costs of electrifying the existing tracks. The tracks running elsewhere in the province were almost all universally taken up back in the early ‘90s (in fact, I still remember as a young kid watching the last train pass through Bridgewater with workers picking up the rails/ties behind it...). I haven’t been on the bridge since I used to live in Bridgewater 18 years ago! Sure, I’ve gone by it many a time, but this is the first time I’ve stopped and gone up on it again since then. :)

But first....bonus Nissan! :D

Looking down! There is a small park right on the water near the bridge. Pretty peaceful spot!

The view down the river into town proper! You can see what everybody calls the ‘new bridge’ (which was built in like....the early ‘80s) in the distance. The iron ‘old bridge’ (originally built in 1891, though repaired in 1971 from ice damage and upgraded since!) complete with steel grate roadway is further beyond out of sight! :)

The view looking the other way at the modern bridge for Highway 103.

This very old cement bridge support still stands on the bank of the river just down from the 103 bridge and the rail bridge....no idea what it was for! Guessing there was a very old rail bridge across the river here way back in the day? No other bridge supports for the bridge seem to still exist but this one!

The rail bridge/trail, itself, with the Highway 103 bridge in the background. A nice spot to relax for a few minutes! :)
