#NovaScotiaDorianWatch (Report!)

Final Update - Sorry there were no updates past Update #1 - power was out until a few minutes ago here (1pm)...very surprised it is back on this quickly, but they called crews in from New Brunswick and apparently even as far away as from Quebec!

We stayed safe and dry - basement didn’t flood again...barely. It was a very shitty day. There was so much water and our neighbour’s construction work the other year meant that was a few feet from flooding again...we were outside in the 150kph winds with buckets and shovels trying to widen our French drain to prevent it from pooling up enough to flood the basement....we managed it. Mom, my brother and I were all exhausted and DRENCHED. 150-200mm rain and 130-150kph winds are NOT PLEASANT.

That’s what it was like around 1pm...it was windier than it looks in that vid. This is us out in the midst of it trying to stop the water from flooding the basement...pardon my brother wearing a pink rainjacket, lol...it’s actually mom’s jacket (mom is in the blue) but was the only other one we had! The shots are blurry from the rain and pardon my finger in a few shots. I actually had the phone in a ziplock bag to keep it dry...

The amount of water coming off the hills behind our house was insane...completely overpowering our French Drain.

But, the house survived unscathed, as did the power line leading to it..BARELY. Huge Pine tree fell into our driveway last evening in the middle of the storm and took 6 other smaller trees with it. We are BLOODY lucky we moved the cars, as it landed right where all three are usually parked, and all three would’ve been crushed...it was a BIG tree. We were out clearing as in the above pics maybe 30 minutes before the tree fell....if we’d still been out then, I don’t think any of us would still be on this Earth.

We spent 2.5 hours this morning with a neighbour cutting the tree in pieces and at least getting it off our driveway...most of it is on the front lawn now! Now to find somebody to haul all that debris away. We’re going to keep the trunk pieces to sell or give away as firewood.

Glad to have power and internet back and a chance to relax....it’s a beautiful day out there today...blue skies, no wind, and cool temperatures. Truly a calm after the storm! :)

Original post:

Winds are already terrible, they’re expecting 100-150mm of rain with 200mm possible in some areas. Lucky for me (yay...), the eye pretty much makes landfall right on top of us between Lunenburg and Halifax (I’m 10 mins from Lburg in Mahone Bay). Expected winds are 130-150kph at the coast, of which I am a 5 minute drive from...

Power is already out and the storm is supposedly like 350km away still...not going to be a good afternoon/night. I have little Data on my phone (100mb as it’s only pre-paid) so I won’t be posting much, but you’ll hear from me every so often as I am already bored, lol...

Cars are all down in the cul-de-sac away from tall trees, including Humdrum...took this pic early this morning (8am) before it started to hit proper...it was scary dark...
