Oppo assistance requested...weird noise?

Hi all,

A month or two back, when in for an oil change, my mechanic noticed the outer CV joint boot on the left front wheel was torn on my Accent. He said there was still grease in it, so he thought if he took it apart, cleaned it up, re-greased it and put on a new boot, it would be good. I THINK he is right....however...

I’m hearing an odd clunk/click (sometimes it repeats, i.e. ‘clunk’ ‘clunk’ ‘clunk’, but I can’t tell if it does that at a regular rhythm or not) when I accelerate from a stop from the front-left suspension. It doesn’t usually happen in a straight line and seems to mostly happen if I am accelerating while turning somewhat hard, so, for example, starting off from a stop sign. It’s most noticeable if accelerating while turning from a stop uphill.

It does repeat sometime, almost as if it’s happening with the turning of the axle/wheel, but it only seems to last for a few seconds, so I can’t tell if it’s actually coming from the axle/CV/wheel or not for sure. I don’t really hear it at any other time, like when I’m driving. Could the CV he repaired be going on the outer part he cleaned up, re-booted and re-greased...or could the inner CV for that axle have failed...?

Thing is, I’ve been taught that if a CV is going, you turn tight circles either left or right at almost full lock and if the CV is going, you’re pretty much guaranteed to hear noise....except, when I do that, I don’t hear the sound I am describing above at all....I seem to ONLY hear it with the ‘accelerating when turning left or right from a stop, especially uphill’ thing. Mind you, I haven’t tried turning tight circles in REVERSE to see if I hear the sound, but I reverse up the entire length of my 70 meter long driveway every day when I get home, and I don’t hear it then...?

I can’t really remember if it seems to happen more when turning right or left, to be sure, but I THINK it seems to happen more when turning right...? I can’t remember though....

Any ideas what the heck this could be? A worn ball joint or bushing maybe? Strut-top bolts somehow more loose than they should be...?

Thanks!
