As per usual, an oppo meet involves a bunch of obscure cars that don’t seem to fit together in any manner. We met up for some coffee at a popular Sunday spot for fancy cars in Malibu. There were multiple expensive Porsches, a couple of R8s, and an M6 just casually there at one point or another. Meanwhile here we were with three golfs, a miata, a Ferrari, and a subaru legacy.
While parked, another two or three other golfs parked in the lot nearby so it was a bona-fide VW meet. But in true oppo fashion we all got along great and even the silly golf drivers were great company. At least we had variety in golfs though with a GTI, TDI, and Golf R. All we were missing was an E Golf but thankfully the TDI owner has two of those at home!
After the Volkswagen meet, we went on spirited drive to include Piuma Rd, Mulholland Highway, Latigo Rd, and Deer Valley Rd. Along the way we only came across a few bicycles, a bunch of other fun cars/motorcycles out doing the same thing, and one determined cop who lasered the fuck out of us.
So the story on the cop was that we were cruising along on Mulholland highway having a grand old time. Taking it somewhat easy since it’s a high traffic, highly patrolled road but still with a somewhat spirited pace. Well as we were about to crest a hill around a turn, an oncoming motorcycle signaled to us to slow down. Well he was absolutely right because as soon as we got to the top of the hill, laser detector in one car started going off. We kept it on the dot at 45 though so the cop was pissed that he missed a chance to score.
Overall an excellent day of driving! And then afterwards we went back to my place and had a wonderful cookout feast. The sun was out and it was great with Thankfully no rain until people were headed home. I wish I got some more group photos and shots from the BBQ but action shots are more fun anyways.
Also, the award for furthest traveled to the meet goes to BeaterGT. He drove all the way from NJ just for this meet! He even started 6 months ago just to make it on time. What commitment.
