My Father-in-Law

My wife’s parents in 1951 on their wedding trip. Pops would go on to earn a PhD in mechanical engineering from Purdue, and work on rockets. His dissertation revolved around cooling rocket exhaust cones with liquid fuel, thereby preheating the fuel for combustion, like the three main engines on the Space Shuttle. He was out of work for a spell during a defense spending contraction in the 60s, and took up, with zero previous experience in the language, translating technical documents from Russian into English. He finished his career working for the Department of Energy on the Tokamak project at General Atomic in San Diego. Gotta love that suit, though.
