It’s been my practice to share a fist bump with every student at the beginning of every class as they file in. Those fist bumps add up to a degree of proximity comfort that cannot be overstated. Nevertheless, the advice has been to do elbow bumps instead and I tried those just now and it makes me have to get much closer to the student, close enough to smell them, and we’ll be sticking with fist bumps.
