Pretty sure I want to snag this watch but I'm not quite pulling the trigger just yet

This is a not-officially-sold-in-the-USA colorway of the Casio G-Shock GAW-100. It’s a gigantic 53 mm analog/digital G-Shock with solar power and atomic clock sync. This wouldn’t be my daily wear to work watch. I’ve already got that covered with my Citizen PCAT, which is also solar powered and atomic clock synced.

My other solar-powered watch is this white special edition “Green Collection” G-Shock digital that’s solar powered but not atomic synced, for when I want to douchebro out a little bit.

I honestly don’t wear this one that much, because I don’t often get the urge to be ironically douchebrotastic. Maybe I should try to sell it, because when I went to search for images I found a couple still-new ones for sale on eBay for ridiculous prices.

Even if I do get rid of the white one, I’m very much on the solar powered (and ideally atomic synced) watch bandwagon. I got the Citizen in 2012 and the G-Shock in 2013, and both of them still hold a charge perfectly. Meanwhile I have an old thin mesh band Skagen and a Timex Weekender, both of which are sitting in my closet waiting for me to get around to having their batteries replaced. Basically, my choice of watches is dictated by laziness.

UPDATE: I waffled about it for a little while and I decided a few things.

  1. That Seiko digituna is cool, but it’s very watchnerd trend chasing in a way, and I’m far from a watchnerd.
  2. Fuck it, I don’t care if douchebros like them, G-Shocks are cool, especially if they have good features like solar power and atomic sync, and/or certain subtly dope-ass colorways. Just like with sneakers, I love a good colorway. They are stupidly large and that’s fine—they know what they are and don’t take themselves seriously. I, too, am stupidly large, know it, and don’t take myself seriously.
  3. My douchebro white G-Shock is actually cool as hell and I’m going to wear it more often. It has the classic 6900 shape, solar power, and when you look closer there are so many details that make it pop: it’s glossy white with light gray embossed lettering and oh-so-simple green accents, including the green tint to the screen over the time display. But then there’s the one light blue WATER 20BAR RESIST lettering to set off that tiny little different detail and a faint yellow to the TOUGH SOLAR label. Details, mannn. It’s a tennis vibe—Wimbledon or Adidas Stan Smiths. Hell yeah, that’s why I picked it. Fuck da haterz.
  4. The GAW-100 Neo Tokyo is another bananas colorway. It’s perfect. You have the all-black outside with the chunky silver buttons and shiny dark navy blue face that’s juuuust different enough to pop out. The little mini digital displays are negative to keep the darkness uniform, but not exactly murdered out. The red and yellow hands are mirrored by most of the face lettering being red like the bigger minute hand, but then only the yellow MULTI-BAND 6 (another reason the GAW atomic solar version is worth getting, because the GAS is only solar, not atomic) label like the smaller hour hand, and then that light blue TOUGH SOLAR comes at you for that one final detail like my tennis G-Shock. Love it.
