I finally got out on my new bike this weekend! I was quiet about it, but I was really afraid that I was not going to like my new bike. The good thing is, I love it! Riding up hill on via full suspension MTB is hilariously easy. The smaller frame, different geometry and, and 27.5" wheels are much better suited to my size and riding style. The only real con and this is probably a knock on my technique and not the bike is “pedal strikes”. I hit the pedals a lot on this bike. When I’m moving slow over technical terrain, I can be strategic to avoid hitting the pedals. When I’m just riding I feel like I’m hitting a lot of rocks and roots. Still, probably just me.

The dropper post takes some getting used to, but you can really whip though turns when you are down super low like that.

It was just a quick ride because we had a home project to work on. My wife asked if I would build her two garden beds. Of course I said sure! In my mind a flower bed costs about $50 and can be slapped together in a few minutes (and is also the same as a garden bed).

So she hands me her list on Saturday and I head to the Depot... “This list is large!” I think to myself as I read down past 8' 2x4 (pressure treated) qty-44 to the 12' cedar decking boards. “Guess I’m renting the truck” I think.”

So -$700 and an hour or so later I return. My wife and daughter are waiting excitedly by the door. I said, “hey, how big are these garden beds?” “16'x4'” she replies...Oh ok, all this wood makes more sense now.

Sunday I cut her enough wood to get started building the support frames while I went for a ride. When I got back I finished cutting and helped her assemble. We’ll need one more day to finish them and another weekend to fill them with dirt.

This morning I woke up with just enough time to shuffle the cars around enough to get the M3 out and take it to work.

Happy Monday.
