Solar Shed

Lot of irons in the fire right now with projects and work is really starting to pick back up, but it stays light late so I have that going for me. A little while ago I posted about building a shed, but provided little detail because puppy!

I bought one of those plastic molded sheds (which are pretty damned legit for the little money they cost.) My wife built the foundation box for me then I came in and leveled it out on bricks, covered with plywood, and built that shed (super easy). This shed is at the very back of our yard, about 400 feet from the house and I want power down there. I’m planning for interior and exterior lighting as well as a 2000 watt inverter for tools etc... after all that were going to stick a ride on mower in there but I have not yet decided on that. I still have to build a ramp and finish off the sides (and playset area) with 4x4s.

That didn’t stop me from organizing though...

I bought this starter kit (one panel and charge controller) along with 2 deep cycle batteries and a second panel. I also bought this inverter. Going with LV LEDs for inside the shed, but will run romex for the floodlights for outside. This is my first dip into an off grid solar setup, so I will have to see how power different things use power and probably add more panels, possibly more batteries.

Panels are going on the roof (or on a separate mount that I build). Batteries will go behind the shed in a “water resistant” box. Controller and inverter inside, per my really detailed diagram below.

The panels might arrive before the weekend!!!

I know some of you may be thinking why TF is this guy so excited about this rinky dinky shed? Well, this is my first “real” storage structure. I know it’s not a garage, but it’s a lawn mower garage...
