Good Morning

Happy Hump Day, Oppo.

Here’s an airplane that is familiar to most Opponauts, the Aviation Traders Carvair. The Carvair was developed by Freddie Laker from surplus Douglas DC-4s and military C-54s. The signature hump at the front housed the cockpit, which was raised up to allow the whole fuselage to be used to carry five cars in the front and up to 22 passengers in the back.  The original idea was that people might like to go on holiday and take their own car with them, but the aircraft could also be converted to carry all passengers, or all cargo, or a flexible combination of both. The Carvair first flew on June 21, 1961, and a total of 21 were built. Three were lost in crashes.
