Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
We suspect human error at the factory, the other rod bolt was bent and in the sump, we came to the conclusion that haans at the factory in germany didnt do the clicky clicky with his torque wrench on that bolt, and it has freed itself, dropped out and then left all the work to bolt 2, which eventually snapped and pinged through the side...
“I’m an engineer.”
If you zoom you will see it’s about 50% mouse turds
[Fuel filter] off an earlier gen 1 cummins.

Truck has 10k on it and is mechanically stock... Lost control on an icy highway and sent it into the guard rail... The front bumper, right bedside, and front fender are trashed too...
Well just as well the timing chain let go and the whole engine needs to be replaced
Finally, a lug extraction done right!
That side worked fine but they did it for both because they wanted a tighter turning radius. Came apart hauling a water tank down a rural road. Chaos everywhere out here.
Angry pixies at it again
WIDE LOAD
We always stop the sketchy drivers and pull it in ourselves. We have the right to make anyone get out if we feel we need to. In the end if they drive themselves in the pit the liability is on them as far as corporate is concerned
The jack is how I got him out. Guy was on his phone and couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to the tech guiding him up
Hi pressure fuel pump went. In it’s defense, we’ve put 90k on it in 10 months.
I want to break free...
Installed a second intake and it was leaking through the heater hose fitting that was pressed into the aluminum. Fml. The worst part is that this is a carpet cleaning van that is heavy modified
There were more parts involved, but this was the most interesting. Customers insurance company got involved. That’s why I think they claimed it was low speed.
Underglow!
They drove this one all day until it stopped running!!!!!!!!
Ramp/Move team tug driver was going way too fast, and apparently slid while connected to a 777-300ER
The torque links that you see hanging off the side there are supposed to be facing aft. The inner cylinder is spun 180 from where it should be in this picture(Lower attach point for the torque link is facing forward, and tow bar attach point is facing aft). The steering actuator is waaaay past it’s stops
It was a very expensive repair...
...It was one hell of a scary test drive. Not to mention the half shaft bearing so shot too it sounded like a jet taking off and the latteral link so loose the rear end was shifting from one side to another 😲
My guess is it had an mechanical problem inside the injector that allowed it to continue to drip with the key off and gush fuel with no restriction with the key on.
I wonder if the torque specs are that descriptive.
It fits!
