Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.

For you fellas here to learn, this camshaft lobe is severely ground down because one of the roller lifters seized up on the Cylinder 8 intake lobe. That left a non-moving roller to just sit there and grind down the camshaft until the valve finally wouldn’t open enough, resulting in the misfire.

Honestly this is the worst of it, most of the truck is halfway okay. He bought the shackle, plate, and bushings.

So a coworker did an alignment last week and yesterday we get a call from the customer saying her wheel fell off and it’s all because of our alignment. We said let’s get it in the shop and see what’s going on. Once we got it in the air we found somebody previously used a wire fed welder and “welded” the control arm onto the subframe because they messed the control arm mounting threads up. My coworker did not see the hack job due to the bolt head being glued in place and the bird turd welds covered in grease. This is the worst hack I’ve ever seen. Make sure you know who is working on your car....

Live near the beach, storm came through and flooded up to the door sills. Soaked the power sliding door modules and took down the entire interior BUS.

the ol [Ford] 3valve v8... get the truck nice and hot like real hot. If your shop sells fuel injection services run one of those. Then proceed to use the impact gun on every single plug with confidence. What’s the worst that can happen... you break a plug?

We weren’t informed that this is how the motor would be arriving, when we opened up the rear hatch my boss thought we were fucking with him and threw a bunch of junk in the back as a joke.

E-brake is disengaged. No bolts holding it in place. It’s just welded in place to the hub with some northeast loctite. Just got it though. Had to slice it with a cutting wheel and crack the cast. 🤘
