Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
Boss: “I want it fixed and out of the shop before someone scratches one or worse.”
...oil cooler, 2001 VW...

About 3 years worth of tire stickers there, approx 5-6 million USD in tires. 100% stickers!
...We’re already working on our 4th ball too, maybe in time we could do a Bibendum in due time!

There’s remnants of what may have been a fuse holder laying on the inner fender. I’m guessing the fuse popped so guy just connected the cable directly. No idea what all was damaged, car was just in for an unrelated drivability concern.
...customer just wanted it cleaned out so I loaded it full of coil shine and it peeled heaps of the crap off and hosed it out and dried it and now it’s freezing.

So just a update: kid hit a cinder block dropping off a different car to a shop. Poor kid is having a bad day.
...Drove in. Apparently he’d been driving it for a couple days because the tie rod is grinded off where it had been dragging the road
I had to make a 10 point turn to get it on the alignment rack. Customer just came back today with a tow truck so he could scrap it (found bent frame while under it).

If you look at the bottom right you can see it’s wrapped around the other control arm as well. This went all the way to the rear of vehicle which wrapped around the driveshaft and exhaust.
They had the wires stripped and wrapped around a few fuses in the interior fuse box.
We still haven’t been able to contact the owner even. He’s a prison guard or something and isn’t allowed to carry a phone during work hours. So for right now it’s just sitting there.
Just wanderful

...there was no sticker in the windshield for last service, so I have no clue how long it’s been or how many miles were on this oil. The shit spewing out in the last video of it draining was solvent I poured in to help break up all the sludge (that was the first gallon, I let another 2 gallons go through later). There was no end to all the sludge, I could just keep fishing more and more out of the pan. This truck is just shy of 138k miles.
