Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
Best I can tell is that the bracket shorted... long enough for it to heat up and melt through part of the battery.
[police chase] ...Pitt maneuvered him right in front of our shop, the car barely missed our sales rep and a customer.
They shut down the highway and had the guy air lifted out, we never heard anything afterwards... except from the guys lawyers

Engine was out of vehicle. Its also like jello. It didnt move hardly at all
I think they were a little lazy on oil changes and with a heavy work van the motor didn’t like that
It’s only on the bottom of the tank and about a 1/4 inch thick. I’m thinking the truck sat for an EXTENDED period of time at some point.
You can’t take it with you...

2007 Honda Odyssey 3.5. Timing belt and all components replaced 26,500 miles/2 years ago. Loud rattle from idle to 2500 rpm then stops. This is what I found when I popped the timing belt cover. Apparently this is a known problem of premature tensioner failure. Still in time, replaced tensioner and all is quiet.
...had about 20 blown fuses lol
They did all sorts of stuff to this truck. Including hitting a tree (that’s why it’s in the shop now, don’t think their $1100 is gonna fix it)
...customer may have made bad choices but knew they screwed up.
They’re not sharp, but at really high rpm and that much momentum I guess they slice faces like butter
...cut the axle off with a torch buy a new axle and knuckle and then do the wheel bearing...
...customer said we’re over charging and it shouldn’t cost that much. We’re crooks and YouTube said it’s easy to do. Never coming back apparently. 👍🏻🤣
This originally came in as a cx complaint of clunk in the front end which turned out to be the fact the control arm is moving around since where it’s supposed to be attached to doesn’t exist anymore which is the Swiss cheese subframes fault
The guy cut the end of the extension cord off cut the ground off stripped back the white and black wires attached them to negative and positive and then had it plugged into a heater in between the seats.
We replaced the same studs in august of 2019 for the same problem (but not this bad). She had her hub replaced later and I don’t think they tightened the lugs very well. She lasted 11000 miles until she replaced them today
Charged for a dismount and mount and balance. And rotate.
I was pulling the dash to remove the blend door actuators...
Was clearing out papers in an old man’s clean car, seemed like a bunch of paperwork etc. I Don’t look at it, just gather it up and put it back when I’m done. Old man had a bare razor blade, edge up in with the paperwork and it went between my fingernail, slicing it straight down the side. Now I know how Vietnam POW’s felt with the bamboo nail torture. Fuck me.
...fwd so no diff issues.
To clarify, this is not from a coca-cola plant, it’s a coke plant in a steel mill...
...that stuff is nasty. It hardens pretty fast, and gets into any and all crevices. Time depends on how long it takes to clear the area that you’re working on.
Lil bastards chewed it down to the terminals, and those terminals aren’t available. Getting a harness.
Brand new truck, they installed the backup camera pointing right at the vise.
2019 Subaru Ascent comes in with an Eyesight “off” light. Customer bought the car a year and a half ago and hasn’t been in since. Said the lights been on for a few months. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s been on ever since he put his EZ-pass in the car..
