Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.

...He felt the other dealership was trying to scam him into buying a cabin air filter after they previously tried to sell a cabin air filter to another one of their customers. He then came to us so he could record the filter being removed from the vehicle to see if it was really dirty or he was being scammed
They pulled the cabin out and it was absolutely shot. The customer then called the other shop he accused and apologized

We thought it was coolant leaking into the cylinders but it turned out the engine was dry. Just the muffler sitting submerged on a flooded road luckily
Several previous owners, probably even more installers. Just shit installer on top of other shit without removing or cleaning. This was all tucked behind the glovebox so the customer had no idea
Thar she blows!
Completely random [transmission jack] failure.
Context: Incorrect tyre/alloy size mounted causing the tyre to rub against the shock... so much so to eat through the wall to cause the oil to seep...
Gal rolled in with it. They’d had a leak in the vacuum system for the wiper cover, so they disconnected the line from the fitting on the intake runner and put another short piece of hose on it with a BB in it. It was running a little rough, but had no pickup. I suspected the vacuum advance diaphragm. While pulling the air cleaner off, with it running, I said, “What’s this open vacuum line on the intake” while reaching for it. She said, “We stuck a metal ball in there to block it off.” as my finger touched it and the motor ate that BB like Pacman gobbling balls. It got a few more revolutions in after I yelled, “SHUT IT OFF NOW!”
Head and valves were fine. The hammered BB was laying on the piston. Thank god they were forged. I did not replace the piston. It lost no compression. I warned her about it possible getting hot spots on it and potentially melting bits at the edge, but she wanted to retain to originality...
