Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
The bearings are wrecked, I don’t know how it went this long. It’s Ford 8.8, she said she had the wheel bearings and axle seals replaced a couple weeks ago, that’s the National bearing I took out.

This vehicle came in regarding an inop clutch. Found the shaft the release bearing slides on snapped off the transmission (hence the broken splines). Bushing had been worn completely through so we assume it’s been “making noise” for quite some time.
Found during the MPI, otherwise the vehicle was in good condition.
...we replaced the one pulley, but I guess there was no other damage because everything stayed quiet.
We are assuming lugs loosened, outer started to walk out and inner sheered the bolts...the operator checked ok in the wheel lug box of the pre trip
...Bent exhaust valves

...the recall was because of excessive rust issues, and because I live in the Chicago suburbs, there is tons of rust out here
...we are replacing ALL of them that come in, regardless of condition...
...this is front driver corner. The entire suspension is pushed back far enough that the tire is about 1" from touching the inside of the fender.

...This car should’ve been a write off. Front end was not square.
Car had no oil pressure, pulled sump and found oil pump sitting there. Siezed solid and ripped itself off its mountings and snapped the oil pump chain tensioner off........M113K w, 138k (and apparently a head gasket issue as well.)

Insurance is getting involved and it’s so caked on there because she wait months to come in we just have to replace parts.
Theory 1: Trans Control Module (TCM) shorted internally... capacitors and or transistors are melted into the plastic. Theory 2: customer installed their own gauge pods and may have cooked something, wires had been shut in the door and wrapped around fuses. Theory 3: the engine harness was fairly chaffed into the radiator fans, thoroughly inspected but couldn’t find actual wiring damage (only loom).
O-low-O
Where it came through the seat, a passenger would probably have either died or lost a leg.
You bet your ass we are [gonna goodwill it].
