Welcome to another food review with @way2blu! Yesterday, I asked what you all wanted to know about the 2020 Sidecar Maple Bacon Doughnut, and you all had many questions. Having now eaten the donut(s), I can provide the answers you’re all drooling for.
Background - Sidecar Doughnuts
Sidecar Doughnuts is a SoCal doughnut shoppe chain founded in 2013. They make premium donuts with a variety of flavors and styles. Their tagline is “World’s Freshest Doughnuts” as they make their donuts daily.
Unboxing
Sidecar’s smallest box actually seats 6 (six!) donuts, also known as a “half-dozen” in donut enthusiast circles. The box has a nice big logo and a cute sticker to keep the box closed and the donuts fresh.
Open the box, and you’re greeted with Sidecar’s tagline and a short blurb about their donut-making philosophy. A tasty maple-bacon donut sits tantalizingly within reach.
Flavor & Quality
This maple bacon donut is yummy. The bacon tastes juicy yet luckily lacks a greasy texture, and the multiple maple-bacon and maple-syrup glaze flavors blend together quite well.
Even after one bite, the donut’s cohesiveness as a snack and/or meal is quite apparent. Excellent flavors and execution.
Donut Drawbacks & Dilemmas
I cannot, in good faith, recommend this donut as a conversation starter. As a pickup line, it is woefully inadequate because it’s too tasty, and will go to your waistline well before it has the chance to impress anyone else.
It’s been asked whether bacon belongs on such a thing as a donut, and I have two words in response: Yes. Please. That’s all.
Price & Conclusion
With an MSRP of around $4.50 per donut (not to mention the cost of the marathon you’ll have to run to burn the calories from half a dozen of these) the 2020 Sidecar Maple Bacon Doughnut is an exercise in excess, and excercise.
Are you hungry yet? Would you dare eat a Sidecar Maple Bacon Doughnut? I survived to write this review, at least for now. What kinds of foods do you want to see reviewed next?
