A 4G Solar Rover To Explore... Earth? Suburbs? Yep!

Back in 2016, I decided to try and build a Mars rover, but for Earth. Connecting over the 4G mobile network, I wanted to be able to drive it anywhere, sending it out into the wild for indefinite lengths of time. Solar power was the natural way to do that.

Real life happened, and it’s taken four long years, but finally, SOLARBOI is a real thing. I can’t wait to send it out on a long-term mission. I just gotta find a way to make the missions as exciting for viewers as they are for me! I’ve really enjoyed driving it around the neighbourhood, but crawling around suburban footpaths while terrified that someone is going to find it doesn’t make a great spectator sport.

Really is awesome to drive, though. I’m hoping I can find some kind of objectives or places to visit that get the audience as excited as I am, without putting the rover at too much risk of public interference. :P Wish me luck!

P.S. if anyone has a lead on a good 5G USB modem, as opposed to those WiFI bricks, let me know. Would be a good boost to the project!
